The Italian agri-food industry risks to pay for the effect on the market of the conflict in Ukraine. This is confirmed by an analysis of ISMEA, the Institute of Services for the Agricultural Food Market. According to the study, Italy is particularly vulnerable due to its high degree of dependence from abroad for grain and corn supplies and also because it is among the main suppliers of agri-food products in Moscow, in first place for wines and sparkling wines. The data analysed by Ismea say that common wheat, durum wheat and corn have reached prices never touched before, while the futures market on the Chicago stock exchange shows a strong volatility.

As for the interchange between Italy and Ukraine, our country is the second supplier of agri-food products in Kiev and in tenth place among the customer countries. We export high value-added products such as wine, coffee, pasta and chewing or snuff tobacco and buy raw oils of sunflower, corn and common wheat. Italy is also the seventh supplier of Moscow, of which it is the 33rd buyer. Furthermore, we mainly export wines, sparkling wines, coffee, and pasta.
