New EU rules to encourage the use of organic pesticides. As part of the strategy "From producer to consumer", to accelerate the transition to sustainable food systems by reducing the use of chemical plant protection products by farmers, the European Commission adopted yesterday a new legislation, which will enter into force from November 2022.
With the new provisions, already approved by the Member States in February 2022, the biological and ecological properties of each micro-organism will be placed at the heart of the scientific risk assessment process; this process should demonstrate safety before micro-organisms can be approved as active substances in plant protection products. Those rules should accelerate the authorisation of the organic micro-organisms and plant protection products containing them.
