The European Commission greenlights the program of the European Fund for the marine affairs, the fishing and the aquaculture for Italy, which has adopted the 987.8 million euros worth document; 518.2 million of which will arrive under the form of contributions from the EU.

About half of the funds allocated will be distributed to sustainable fisheries, to help Italy put an end to the practice of discarding fish, reduce the overcapacity of certain fleets and improve fisheries control and data collection. More than a third will be invested in sustainable aquaculture, processing and marketing, while the rest will be reserved for the sustainable blue economy and the strengthening of international ocean governance. Digitisation of the Italian fisheries, aquaculture and processing sectors is among the key areas of the programme.
