What kind of workforce is available in Sardinia? What human resources are available to a company that chooses to localize on the island?
In recent years, the Sardinian workforce has been increasing.
In 2012 it consisted of 695,000 people, 58% of whom were male. The activity rate was, on average, about 74% in the age groups between 25 and 54 years and, for the most part, they were high school graduates (68%), or graduate or post-graduate university students (83%).
In the last year, the employment rate was stable.
In 2012, 52 out of 100 people were employed in Sardinia, thanks mainly to the female employment rate which, between 2004 and 2012, increased by 0.5% (the male rate on the contrary decreased by 0.4%).
The employment trend in the service sector has been growing (1% last year and 5.7% in the last five years), while employment in the industrial sector has been decreasing (-12% and -25.3%).
Full-time employees account for 73% of the total workforce. Illegal employment has nonetheless been growing, while the regulatization rate during the year has been decreasing.
The unemployment rate in 2012 accounted for 10.8% (+0.2% compared to 2011). According to the Sistema Informativo del Lavoro della Sardegna (www.sardegnalavoro.it), during the fourth quarter of 2012 the number of first-job contracts amounted to 45,393. Therefore, a large workforce to be employed in stable jobs is available for the setting up of new activities, which can prevent the industrial sector workforce drain generated by the current economic crisis. Moreover, thanks toguidance programmes andtraining programmesthat the Region is currently supporting, the professional skills of the local workforce will increase to provide high added value and meet the needs of local companies.
