The island enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild and relatively rainy winters and dry and warm summers. The climate is influenced by the sea. Its effects tend to fade as you move towards the centre of the island. The annual average temperature is between 11°C in the inland areas and 17°C on coastal areas, with minimum values in January and February and maximum values during the months of July and August.
Rainfalls are almost null during the summer, and in winter they reach their maximum values after the heavy autumn rains. The region is very much exposed to winds and the entire coast is influenced by the so-called sea breezes (brezze marine).
The most common wind is the wind that comes from the north-west. Other recurring winds are the tramontana, the levante, the ponente, and the sirocco blowing from the south-east.
