What to do in the event of an injury

If a worker is injured, your first duty is to ensure the person affected receives first aid while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive at the scene.

You will also have obligations towards the Workers’ Compensation Authority for workplace injuries, INAIL.

You must report to INAIL and to the public authorities in the territory where the accident occurred any injury requiring more than 3 days of medical treatment besides the day the injury was sustained.

You can report the injury by filling in an ad hoc form which you can deliver by hand or send by recorded delivery mail. Alternatively, you can report it online, again using a specific form.

Any accident resulting in death or life-threatening injuries must be reported within 24 hours.

Any accident resulting in at least one day of sick leave in addition to the day of the event must be recorded in a specificaccident book.

Before being used, the accident book must be stamped by the Local Health Authority. The accident book must be kept at the workplace for at least 4 years from its last entry and be always available for inspection by surveillance bodies.
