Energy monitoring and control

Energy monitoring means a system that allows to measure any size or energy carriers through the use of sensors and measuring instruments that are able to obtain, through sensors and measuring instruments, information about the area of interest and to save and display data to analyse and implement any energy strategies.

The monitoring and control activity are the basis of the feedback on the progress and improvements made in the company as a result of the planned interventions.

The historicization of the information, the results of the analyses and the diagnoses allows to take decisions coherent with the scope to pursue and to obtain continuous results of improvement and performances.

To this end, it is necessary to have a precise idea about:

  • savings obtained;
  • return of an investment;
  • quantification of any gain;
  • planning for future action.

On the market there are tools to monitor companies, thanks to which you can control all the devices that need energy to work. There are, in fact, devices to be inserted in the electrical panel, which allow you to verify and control the electrical consumption while connected.

Monitoring must become an essential tool for the company. Only by monitoring the energy consumption it is possible to supervise the production processes, to know them, to modify them and to improve them and, in terms of production, to obtain savings, rationalisation and optimisation.

It is the responsibility of the company to define the operational criteria for the implementation of energy processes, for the maintenance of plants, equipment, buildings, by indicating the control methods used. In this regard, it is necessary to adopt a business procedure, which establishes the correctness of behaviour and actions, defines the criteria or parameters to be followed and clearly identifies non-compliance. Well-defined corrective actions may be associated with each non-compliance. The recommended corrective actions and controls are:

  • monitoring;
  • assessment and compliance with company requirements;
  • internal audit of the environmental management system;
  • recording check.

It is necessary to record and schedule all checks carried out and actions due to non-conformity detected by the same controls, as a tool to assist the planning of maintenance interventions and analysis of operating trends, the failure curves of the equipment and the correctness of the procedures applied.
