ICE, the Italian Foreign Trade Agency, organizes the participation of Italian companies in "Bakery China 2019", the bakery exhibition that will be staged in Shanghai from May 6th to the 9th. At the 2018 edition of Bakery China, in which Ice participated with 14 local companies, there were 2.150 exhibitors and more than 230 thousand visitors. The growing trend of imports and the size of the Chinese market are a great opportunity for Italian companies in the sector.

In the Chinese market, bakery and confectionery products are increasingly important: between 2018 and 2021 it is estimated that production will grow by 7.4% a year, generating an increase in turnover from 39 to 49 billion euro in three years. The trend will generate an increase in the demand for machinery for bakery and confectionery: from 2015 to 2017, domestic machinery sales increased from 726 to 823 million euros, with a 13.4% increase in three years.

In the same period, the search for a better production quality and a higher level of automation led to an increase in imports of 19%: from 61 to 72million and a half. In that three-year period Italy recorded a leap in exports to China of 183%, from 2 million and 400 thousand euro and 6 million euro and 910 thousand euro, becoming the fifth among machinery importing countries after Japan, Germany, the Netherlands and Austria.
